Your Mission is to add a landscape image with only a single colour left in the photo, with all other colours desaturated or neutral. This is what you may have heard as a “selective colour” or “colour pop” edit… Think forest greens popping in a dark grey forest, a lone wooden hut against a stripped-out hillside, or a golden landscape sunset with only deep glowing oranges. October is normally the last month you can get the milky way core, and after waiting in till the last moment, for my new 3 way geared head to arrive from amazon, it was a mad dash across the Northumberland country side to get to Fontburn and capture the core.

The forground is 60 seconds, ISO 1600, F2.8 and the sky is 26 images stacked at F2, 25 sec, ISO 1600. Photoshop did the heavy lifting to replace the sky.

I haven’t had much time to get out and do my aviation or wildlife photography recently due to work….so I’ve spent a bit of time chasing
galaxy shots around Northumberland. Here is one from one of my favourite wildlife spots in a remote valley in Northumberland. The shot itself is a composite where I took the foreground shot just after sunset with enough light for me to keep the iso down but also prevents it looking like daylight. The sky was taken from the exact same spot much later into the night and is a 20 image stack set at 10s, f2.8 and 1600iso. These were then edited and added to the foreground image using the sky replacement tool on photoshop.

Sunrise at Cap de Formentor - where the road wakes up before the island does.

Getting to this location before the sunrise is a little adventure in itself - you will be driving along a narrow twisting mountain road in pitch black, at times you just sense that there is a straight drop down til the sea surface right beside the road. And once you manage to park the car - a pathless hike uphill over jagged cliffs. All this is still worth it in the end!
